experiments in free-drumming: drumspeak

This performance involves live recording, looping, and processing of audio of my voice and the marching snare drum. Through this process I demonstrate how rhythmic sequences are rehearsed and created in real-time. As the performance continues, I transition to manipulating and distorting the nature of these recordings by adding various effects to the sounds. The synchronous and rhythmic quality of the patterns become lost. The visuals that are projected include a distorted 3D-scan of the drum I am playing on and multiple figures that are performing marching drill sets. The visual nature of the sets are vague and unclear, which contributes to subverting the importance placed on performing music and choreography with accuracy and precision by marching band culture.
